Taj Mahal is situated in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India.
Taj
Mahal is a white marble mausoleum built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in
memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is a UNESCO World Heritage
Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
The Taj Mahal took 21 years to build with a construction crew of
thousands of artisans and craftsmen. Some estimates place that number at
upwards of twenty thousand. The monument is crafted out of pure white
marble and has twenty eight types of precious and semi-precious stones
inlaid into the marble.
According to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the Taj Mahal is
widely recognized as "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the
universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage".
